In manufacturing-related industries, connected devices could be using the Chatter feature in Salesforce.com to publish events and other messages to organization-restricted audiences. That allows field services reps to benefit from back office workflows that are sending data to them on-the-job.
Here’s the scenario: a POS scale that weighs deli meats at a convenience store is due for Calibration and the store owner is not aware that the calibration service tech is coming next week on his regular schedule. Rather than wait to alert the technician when he arrives, an Axeda agent is used to report a calibration event and pushes the event to the Axeda Platform in the cloud. The field rep, “armed” with a smartphone, is then alerted by a Chatter workflow that triggered an email message.
